Job Description
 The Chemistry Department provides professional education for chemist Jobs at the undergraduate and graduate levels teaches basic chemistry courses, which are needed by students enrolled in other department programs; advances the discipline of chemistry by conducting research; and serves the public by sharing information about chemistry through a variety of mechanisms and services.

 A Master’s of Science degree or chemist degrees
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to safe practices and promotion of positive lab safety culture
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in lab management
Certified Chemical Hygiene Officer
Two or more years of experience in an organic chemistry laboratory and/or in instrumentation laboratories

Responsibility or Duties
The duties as the Chemistry Safety Officer include, but are not limited to the following:
Manage Lab Safety Officer program.
Interface with EH&S as one of two primary points of contact.
Consult on: safety plans, lab coats, lab inspections, haz reviews, odor reports, spill kits, SOPs.
Investigate and write lessons learned reports of accidents and near misses.
Maintain safety pages on department website and shared google drives.
Conduct new graduate student and postdoc orientation safety training. Coordinate Moodle course for safety training as needed.
Dispose of broken glass.
Research topics and vet external contractors as requested by Associate Head.
Maintain database of training record summaries, building marshals, undergrad researchers, biological use authorizations.
Dispose of legacy chemicals, fridges, and advise on glovebox cleanouts as needed.
Write and/or implement Safety Moments (under rebranding to SIDW talks).
Assist with mentoring guide materials about safety.
Perform anemometer readings on fume hoods as requested.
Serve on safety committees at all levels. Assist Associate Head with writing department safety committee meeting agendas and take meeting notes.
Communicate regularly with the Associate Head and department on safety matters.
